A Winning Crusade

New sire off the mark

Scott Bro’s Mr Greeley stallion Crusade produced an impressive winner with only his seventh first crop runner when the Bruce Le Roux-bred Miss Millionaire scooted home on debut at Greyville on Monday.

Alec Forbes drives Miss Millionaire to win on debut from Minnie The Moocher

The 2016 KZN Sibaya Yearling Sale R70 000 graduate, a racy sort, showed maturity when holding off fellow debutante Minnie The Moocher to win the 1000m Maiden Juvenile Plate on the Greyville polytrack.

The winner, trained by Belinda Impey, was one of four successes on the day for jockey Alec Forbes, and scored by 1,25 lengths in a time of 60,96 secs.

Miss Millionaire is out of the six-time winning Only A Pound mare Really Rich.

Crusade was a top-class racehorse, and among the leaders of his generation at two.

His victories included a win in the Gr1 Middle Park Stakes – Europe’s top 2yo race, won previously by outstanding sires such as Bayardo, Tetratema, Djebel, Khaled, Sharpen Up, Diesis, Oasis Dream and Dutch Art.

He is a son of top sprinter and ill-fated world leading sire, Mr Greeley, who left behind more than 60 stakes winners.

Crusade is out of the top-class Johannesburg racemare La Traviata – winner of the Gr3 Victory Ride Stakes, and only defeated once in 4 starts – that when starting favourite in the Breeders’ Cup F&M Sprint.

This is the same family as Sun Teddy – the male line ancestor of outstanding US sire Damascus.

Crusade stood for a 2016 fee of R20 000 at Scott Bros.
