Class Comes In All Shapes And Sizes

The development of a horse from foal to yearling, and then to early 2yo, can be full of surprises. Backward foals don’t develop as fast as they should. Good looking youngsters get a growth spurt and change into gangly yearlings. If that happens at the wrong time, the vendor simply has to wait for a later selling opportunity. That’s one reason why good horses miss the prestigious National Sale and end up at the 2yo Sale. Make no mistake, good horses come from there, as often as not. Equus Champions J J The Jetplane (70k), River Jetez (230k), Irridescence (160k), Rock Opera (80k), Festive Occasion (60k), Asylum Seeker (50k). In 2009, leading 2yo’s such as Gr1 winner All Afire, Gr1 runner-up Straight Forward, Gr1 third Spiced Gold.
The 2009 2yo sale will be no different. All the top sires are represented. The major vendors are there, many for no other reason than that they couldn’t take all their yearling to the National Sale – they simply have too many.
Clearly, it’s the clever buyers who can benefit. But homework is essential, just as it was for the National Sale. In the flesh, as much as on paper.
