Horse Chestnut Filly Tops 2yo Sale
An American-bred daughter of Horse Chestnut, born in April last year, topped the Emperor's National 2yo Sale last weekend. A half sister to 4 winner in the States, the filly is out of a 9-time winning (incl 2 stks races) mare. Consigned by Gary Player Stud, she was knocked down to Brett Warren for R650.000.
The battle for the top price amongst the colts was close. A Mogok half brother to Big Sky Country, consigned by Scott Bros, made R525.000, with the sale slip signed on behalf of VIP Thouroughbreds. Second highest price was R520.000 for a National Assembly full brother to 5-time winning stakes placed Sister Nation, their dam a half sister to champion filly Star Effort. DS Durant was the buyer.
The buoyant market, felt throughout sales held this year, continued unabated. The 2yo sale averaged R76.000 for 332 lots sold. Split by sex, colts made R83.800 (median 60.000) for 164 sold, their average down from the R90.000 last year. The average was up for the 168 fillies sold, who bettered last year's R54.000 to reach a very respectable average of 68.600 (median 50.000), this despite the fact that there were more fillies and fewer colts on offer than in 2005.
