We live in exciting times.
In most years, the Cape Sale is the first of the new season, and offspring from first season sires makes their debut in the ring.
There are expectations. There’s hope. Anticipation. Who will do it and who won’t? There’s uncertainty, too. Buyers are cautious. And that, in turn, makes for real opportunities of value. A first season sire with big runners later on will often have a Cape Sale graduate to shout about.
See this list.
And count the Gr1 runners. Scary.
So armed with this statistic, all that remains is to look into your crystal ball and decide which new sires for 2010 can make the grade. Then you bid.
There must be a good chance you’ll get good value for money.
This year’s new boys on the block are Black Minnaloushe & Daylami (both Gr1 producers abroad, so maybe they don’t count), Eyeofthetiger (now dead), Go Deputy (US G1 winner), Greys Inn (July winner), Lithuanian (son of Nureyev), Miesque’s Approval (Champion Turf Horse in US), Stagelight (son of Montjeu), Tiger Dance (full brother to world Champion Sire Giant’s Causeway), Tobe Or Nottobe (Gr1 sprinter), Whitechapel (full brother to Horse Chestnut).
Karel Miedema takes a look at their offerings, and those of the ‘proven’ sires, too.
