Maine Chance Farms acquires Black Minnaloushe
A majority of NZ’s leading first Season Sire Black Minnaloushe has been acquired by Maine Chance Farms. As part of the arrangement, Coolmore will keep 25% in the horse.
Black Minnaloushe will stand again in NZ at Windsor Park for the coming 2006 breeding season, before coming to SA in 2007. Windsor Park Stud has been his southern hemisphere base and Ashford was his northern hemisphere base for the last five seasons.

A champion son of Storm Cat, Black Minnaloushe sired his eighth individual 2YO winner from his first New Zealand-bred crop this week when the Donna Logan trained filly Jazzella impressively won the first leg of a $100,000 triple-crown bonus series of races. Among his first New Zealand-bred crop of runners, Black Minnaloushe has also sired Champion 2YO elect and dual Gr.1 winner Jokers Wild, as well as the highly regarded Australian performers Changing Eyes and Canyonville and the exciting Hong Kong winner Butterfield.
“Black Minnaloushe has made a greater initial impact than we could have hoped and though this season will be his last with us, the exciting thing is that there will still be four more crops of his runners to represent him in our region ” said Schick.
In the northern hemisphere Black Minnaloushe has sired group-level horses in both the U.S.A. and Europe including leading turf 3YO and multiple stakes winner Stream Cat, unbeaten on the grass in 2006 and placed in the Gr.1 Breeders’ Futurity at two, as well as multiple European group performer Black Charmer.

Remarkable weekend for Black Minnaloushe
It was a truly phenomenal weekend for Maine Chance Farms’ Black Minnaloushe.
Whilst his son, Dancing In Silks, captured the Breeders Cup Sprint on Saturday, Sunday saw Black Minnaloushe’s juvenile son Hollinger land one of Canada’s most prestigious juvenile races. The unbeaten gelding won the Coronation Futurity at Woodbine, and is likely to win a Sovereign Award as Canada’s best juvenile of 2009.
Now a multiple stakes winner, Hollinger is regarded as a leading contender for next year’s Queen’s Plate, the oldest classic on the North American continent.
Black Minnaloushe’s daughter, Black Mamba, is likely to prove one of the highlights in the upcoming Fasig Tipton Mixed Sale.

Favored Hollinger, roused in upper stretch by jockey Tyler Pizarro, charged impressively to win the $242,341 Cup and Saucer Stakes for 2-year-olds on the Woodbine turf, Oct. 18. The unbeaten son of Black Minnaloushe captured the 1 1/16-mile one-turn test for Canadian breds by two lengths in a time of 1:42.53 over firm going. Trained by Roger Attfield, the Robert Harvey and Al Wortzman-owned homebred won his stakes and grass debut in the Cup and Saucer and is now three-for-three in his career.
Out of the Dynaformer mare Dynamite Cocktail, Hollinger began his career going six furlongs on Woodbine's Polytrack Aug. 28, producing a 1 1/4-length victory. The grey/roan gelding returned to Polytrack Oct. 2 with a 2 1/4-length triumph over first-level allowance foes as the even-money choice at one mile and seventy yards. The Cup and Saucer victory was worth $144,480 to Hollinger.
