Gr3 Winner for Kabool (26/08/06)
Sixth in the Queen Anne S. (Eng-G1) at Royal Ascot, KANDIDATE was successful in the Gala S. at Sandown and dropped to sixth in the Glorious S. at Goodwood before rebounding to finish third in the Winter Hill S. (Eng-G3) at Windsor in his latest start on August 26.
Continuing his resurgence here, he recorded a determined first group score at the expense of Goodwood winner Crosspeace. Positioned third from the break, he was shuffled back to fifth for most of the contest until a withering stretch run carried him home with something to spare.
“I am delighted with the way he has won and I was always confident he would get the distance,” the winning trainer told PA Sport. “He has got a turn of foot and it was unfortunate last time that the ground had too much give in it and took the edge off his speed. He is a fast-ground horse and is capable of winning another group race. He is in the Cambridgeshire H. (at Newmarket on September 30), although now he has won a Group 3 he will have plenty of weight, but if his owner wants to run we will have to look at it.”
