Major Coup For SA Breeding
Tiger Ridge - son of World Leading sire STORM CAT

Mary Slack is proud to announce the acquisition of an exciting new sire Tiger Ridge, who will join Right Approach at Wilgebosdrift this season.
Tiger Ridge has a flawless stallion’s pedigree.
Tiger Ridge is a son of World Leading sire STORM CAT, (sire of sires Giant’s Causeway, Hennessy, Forestry, Harlan, Tale Of The Cat, Stormy Atlantic etc)
Tiger Ridge is a half-brother to Preakness winner Summer Squall and to Horse-Of-The-Year and Champion Sire, AP Indy. (The immediate family of Al Mufti, Sportsworld, Lemon Drop Kid, etc.)
Tiger Ridge is inbred 2x3 to Secretariat (through two females) and offers South African breeder’s the most exciting mating opportunities.
In his first two crops, Tiger Ridge has produced 7 stakes winners (6% of foals) and a further 6 stakes placed horses.
The seven stakes-horses in his first crop were bred from 61 mares who had never managed to bred a single stakes-winner between them!
Bashert (currently recuperating from injury), from Tiger Ridge’s 2nd crop, was rated 113 on Experimental Free Hcp, just 2 lb behind Derby Hero- Barbaro.
Tiger Ridge has an AEI of 1.59 against a Comp AEI of 1.20 - further evidence that he is a serious “upgrader” (as were Jungle Cove and Dancing Champ)
Should you wish to book a service to Tiger Ridge, call John Everett on (022) 942 1266 or 083 658 7804

US Stakes Win for Tiger Ridge
Multiple Grade 2 winner Leah’s Secret launched her winning bid from between horses on the turn and shook free in the stretch to a clear win in the $500,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff S on Saturday at Santa Anita Park.
The 6yo Tiger Ridge mare seized command in early stretch and was never seriously threatened in the closing strides of a 21/4-length win under Eibar Coa. Sent off as the 1.30-to-1 favorite, Leah’s Secret completed 11/16 miles on the synthetic Pro-Ride surface in 1:42.58.
Lady Railrider nipped third-place finisher Unforgotten by a halflength for second.
Leah’s Secret closed her five-year-old season with consecutive wins in the Chilukki Stakes (G2) on November 2 at Churchill Downs and the Top Flight Handicap (G2) at Aqueduct on November 28. Trained by Todd Pletcher for owner WinStar Farm, Leah’s Secret improved to nine wins in 26 career starts and boosted her earnings to $1,140,805.

Gr3 runner up for Tiger Ridge
Tiger Ridge, whose first South African crop are yearlings, is the sire of Roman Tiger. The latter was a game runner up in the Gr Kent Breeders Cup Stakes at Delaware Park on Saturday. Sent out one of the outsiders for the race, Roman Tiger was beaten half a length by multiple graded stakes winner Adriano. Interestingly, Adriano is by Tiger Ridge’s half brother A P Indy. Roman Tiger, who previously ran third in the Jersey Derby, is out of a mare by the somewhat obscure Sam’s Sunny Hour. Roman Tiger’s granddam, Ann’s Bluff, won the grand total of just over $8000, and is by the unraced Secretary of State (Secretariat). The most noticeable thing about Roman Tiger’s pedigree is the intense inbreeding to Secretariat.
Further behind Roman Tiger in the Kent came the likes of Mr Maccool (Jersey Derby), Wesley (Hall of Fame Stakes), Deal Making (Stanton Stakes) and Ablaze with Spirit (3rd WinStar Derby). The Kent has been contested by the likes of Nobiz Like Shobiz (Wood Memorial), Kip Deville (Breeders Cup Mile), North East Bound (2nd Breeders Cup Mile) and SA sire Miesque’s Approval (Breeders Cup Mile).

Tiger Dance & Second Empire to stand at Arc-En-Ciel
GIANT’S CAUSEWAY’s full brother TIGER DANCE (Storm Cat – Mariah’s Storm by Rahy) and Champion 2yo and Classic placed SECOND EMPIRE (Fairy King – Welsh Love by Ela Mana Mou) will stand at Arc En Ciel from the 2008 breeding season onwards in a new long term arrangement.
Arc en Ciel and Oaklands, neighbours in the Wellington area have a well established relationship and are planning to work more closely together in the future. Plans are being made for the redevelopment of Oaklands Estate although its owners, the Timms family, are planning to remain very much involved in the SA bloodstock industry.
Arc En Ciel is the young stallions’ home now and they are already in residence having spent time at L’Ormarins, to whom all concerned are most grateful, in the immediate aftermath of the fire at Oaklands. Craig Carey looks forward to the 2008 season and beyond with TIGER DANCE and SECOND EMPIRE.
TIGER DANCE (Fee R 20,000) is following in the footsteps of his full brother, the sire described as the best young sire in the world. TIGER DANCE had a very solid first book of 67 mares in 2008 which should give him an excellent chance. Support for the horse in 2008 is already gathering pace and his fee is looking very competitive at this level of quality.
SECOND EMPIRE (Fee R 25,000) is doing the business steadily now and continues at the same fee as before. With a recent Gr.3 winner in Singapore and Stakes horses around the world and some nice yearlings at the recent sales, this high quality stallion is properly established and an excellent addition to the Arc En Ciel roster. His first juvenile to run in SA is a winner.
Allan Bloodlines, as syndicate manager for Tiger Dance and contributing marketing and promotion for both stallions, played a part in the new arrangements and will continue with its present tasks with the added benefit of having worked well with Arc En Ciel over a number of years. “This is an excellent step from all points of view with Craig and Paul both contributing extremely positively to the arrangements,” said David Allan. “The stallions are slotting straight into the Arc En Ciel routines and we shall all work together to maximise the performance of very exciting sires.”
A few shares could still be bought in TIGER DANCE (contact Allan Bloodlines on 083 399 6353 or email davidallan@allanbloodlines.com or joanneknowles@allanbloodlines.com). The same contacts apply for nominations to TIGER DANCE and SECOND EMPIRE - or call Craig Carey at Arc En Ciel on 021 864 1603 or 082 654 5169, email craig@arcenciel.co.za or Paul Timms on 082 382 3575.

Tiger Ridge filly sells well at Fasig Tipton

Top-class Tiger Ridge filly, Leah’s Secret, fetched $525,000 at Sunday’s Fasig Tipton’s Selected November Sale. From a high-class female line, Leah’s Secret is a top-notch performer, having won the Gr2 Raven Run Stakes
She was purchased by Winstar Farm, home of leading sire Distorted Humor. Leah’s Secret was one of a number of high-class race fillies which came up for sale. The sale was topped by former Breeders Cup Distaff winner Round Pound, whose dam is a half sister to Black Minnaloushe, who sold for $5.75m

Tiger Ridge
The recently imported Tiger Ridge was represented by an impressive winner last week. His 3yo daughter, Leah’s Secret, won an allowance race by over 6 lengths, despite running wide into the stretch. She has won 2 of 4, finishing 3rd once, and is clearly a promising sort. The superbly bred Tiger Ridge is currently 15th on the leading third crop sires list in the USA.

Impressive performance from Tiger Ridge juvenile
Crackalackin, a son of Tiger Ridge, was a most impressive winner of Saturday’s Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes. Coming off a third place finish to stable mate Kodiak Kowboy (Posse) in the Gr3 Bashford Manor Stakes, Crackalackin confirmed his status as a smart juvenile by a dominating four and a half length win here. Crackalackin, the winner of two of his three starts to date, was a cheap $25,000 buy at last year’s Keeneland September Sale.
Out of the Gp2 placed mare Artic Experience (Slewpy), Crackalackin (whose female line can best be described as plebian) started favourite for the six furlong race. The runner up in the race, Preachin Man (Songandaprayer), had previously won the Minstrel Stakes.

Tiger Ridge is also the sire of Chaluiwitcane, runner up in Sunday’s Jersey Derby. The Jersey Derby, formerly a Gr1 race, has been won by a number of top horses over the years such as Citation, Dynaformer, Spend A Buck and Snow Chief. It is the oldest Derby to be held in North America, being first run in 1864.
