New venue for BSA’s Cape Sale

With the loss of the Convention Centre venue and the ending of the Agri-Expo contract at the end of 2011, Council decided that BSA would be holding only one Cape yearling sale in 2012 and that it was appropriate to investigate the option of a new venue. BSA are delighted to have found Val de Vie, a luxurious equine property development in the heart of the beautiful Cape winelands, for the weekend 2-4 March.

After so many years we felt that the name Cape Summer Sale was too closely associated with Sandringham Farm and that it would cause confusion to take that name to the new venue. BSA also has the sales name Cape Premier Sale and we chose to use that name for the Val de Vie sale with the additional advantage that it already has its own website. As 2011 was the inaugural Cape Premier Yearling Sale, 2012 will be the second. We do not know what name the new competitor sales company will choose for the sale it will hold at the CTICC in 2012.

The National Yearling Sale has long been the pride and joy of South African breeders.  It is the preferred sale of many international buyers and enjoys strong support from all over the country.  In 2012, the NYS returns to the very popular weekend coinciding with the Champions race day on 28th April.

Council also discussed the applicable levies for 2011. The levies are currently 4% for regional yearling sales and 7% for the National Yearling Sale, the National Two Year Old Sale and the Ready to Run. It was decided that due to the difficulties endured by breeders in these tough economic times, the regional levy would remain at 4% for one more year and in 2013 would then increase to 7%.

It has been confirmed that the BSA’s calendar of sales is made up of :-
· National Yearling Sales at the BSA complex – our flagship sale – weekend of 28 April
· National Two Year Old Sale at the BSA complex – 10 – 12 August
· A regional yearling sale in the Cape – 2-4 March
· A regional yearling sale in KZN – 5 – 6 July
· Ready To Run Sale at the BSA complex – 4 November
· Mare and Weanling Sale in the Cape – 24 May
· Mare and Weanling Sale in KZN – 11 July

The entry forms for the Cape and National sales will allow dual entries and the physical inspections will be carried out in November.
