Exciting Prospects on Milkwood Sale

The Milkwood Dispersal Sale

The Milkwood Dispersal Sale, which takes place on Thursday morning, sees a number of exciting broodmares and broodmare prospects up for sale.
Some of South Africa’s top stud farms are offering stock for sale. Farms with mares and weanlings on sale include Milkwood, Danika, Mauritzfontein and the Gary Player Stud Farm.

There will be daughters of some of South Africa’s leading sires and broodmares on offer. Stallions with daughters on sale include Fort Wood, Caesour, Elliodor, Al Mufti, Western Winter and Jet Master.  There are also a number of stakes winners on sale, which includes White Mischief, Royal Tune and Western Fleet.

The mares are offered in foal to some of South Africa’s best and most exciting sire prospects around. Covering sires represented at the Milkwood Sale include Silvano, Var, Noordhoek Flyer, King’s Apostle, Mambo In Seattle, Ideal World, Judpot, Russian Sage, and Black Minnaloushe.

One of the many classy mares on sale is Fairy Footprints. Catalogued as lot 52, she is the dam of the very promising 3yo Taipan – a horse who has been nominated for the 2012 Vodacom Durban July.  Fairy Footprints, consigned by Milkwood, sells in foal to the well bred G1 performer, Mambo In Seattle.

Woodland Fairy, who sells as lot 82, is another gem in the catalogue. A stakes placed daughter of Al Mufti, Woodland Fairy is already the dam of two high-class stakes performers in Comet Chaser and Bayard. Consigned by Milkwood Stud, Woodland Fairy is not in foal.

Milkwood also consign lot 64, Kathakali, a mare whose son, Calanish, recently won the Listed Riverside Handicap. She sells in foal to exciting young sire King’s Apostle.

Another proven stakes producer coming up for sale, is lot 27. Sunset Sails is by the wonderful broodmare sire Al Mufti. Already dam of the smart, stakes winner Sammy Jo, she sells in foal to blue blooded young sire, Judpot.

Danika Stud also has some beautifully bred mares on offer. Lot 33, Western Fleet, is a proven commodity, both on the track and at stud. A stakes winner from the family of champion Mythical Flight, Western Fleet is the dam of the top-class filly, Lady Var. She is back in foal to Var – and her resulting foal will be an own sibling to Lady Var.

The Gary Player Stud also has some lovely mares on sale. Lot 1, Merry Mistral, is a proven producer, with a female line to match.  A half-sister to Gold Circle Derby winner Superwood, Merry Mistral, herself, is the dam of former top-class 2yo colt, Arctic Captain. She is currently in foal to dual Guineas winner Noordhoek Flyer, a son of world leading sire Pivotal.

The same farm is also offering lot 15, Royal Mayfair. A top-class racemare, Royal Mayfair won five races, and was placed in the G3 Langerman Handicap. Already dam of two winners, Royal Mayfair is in foal to former Equus Champion, Russian Sage.

Mautizfontein has some truly blue blooded mares on sale, and, their draft includes, no doubt,  many potential successful broodmares.

Lot 7, is the only daughter of world leading sire and broodmare sire, Red Ransom, on sale. Named Nuttalli, the mare, consigned by Mauritzfontein Stud, is a daughter of former G1 Cape Derby winner Dog Wood, by champion sire Fort Wood. Nuttalli is in foal to Kingmambo’s blue blooded son, Ideal World.

Good Judgement, who sells as lot 55, is another well bred mare consigned by Mauritzfontein Stud. By the great champion Horse Chestnut (now a leading broodmare sire), Good Judgement is a half-sister to the hot young sire, Greys Inn. She too is in foal to Ideal World, a close relative of world leading sire Dansili.

The sale also offers buyers an opportunity to purchase some blue blooded weanlings. There are weanlings on sale by such top-class sires as Captain Al, Silvano and Tiger Ridge, as well as by such exciting young stallions as King’s Apostle, Judpot, Rebel King, Sail From Seattle, Mambo In Seattle and Seventh Rock.
