There is plenty of talk about the current crop of three-year-old fillies being an exceptionally strong one. Adding impetus to that school of thought was Al Adaayit South Africa’s Tamaanee, who put in a stunning performance as the only 3yo in the race to win the R400 000 G2 Gerald Rosenberg Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday in facile fashion.
The daughter of Teofilo, third to champion Majmu at her previous outing, simply pulverized some useful older fillies and mares to land the 2000m feature and launched trainer Sean Tarry’s Champions Day feature fest.
Tamaanee had run a cracker at her last outing when a good third to superstar Majmu in the Gr1 Laurie Jaffee Empress Club Stakes and the lightly raced daughter of Teofilo looked set to handle her first shot at 2000m against her ten seasoned older opponents.
After Mohave Princess had shown the way, regular pilot S’manga Khumalo produced Tamaanee in the home straight and she simply strode away to beat the very capable Gavin Van Zyl filly Vino Veritas by 3,75 lengths in a time of 124,57 secs.
The winner’s stablemate, the Aussie bred Amber Orchid (Dubaawi) followed up her recent smooth Gr3 Jacaranda Handicap form by staying on for third place, ahead of Touch The Sky.
The Ferraris runner Erin was disappointing as she battled to get going and fell away to run downfield.
Bred by Pedrille Thoroughbreds, Tamaanee has won 3 races with 5 places from her 9 starts and R1 049 500 in stakes.
She went through the ring at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book in the draft of Yarraman Park Stud, where Heritage Bloodstock purchased her for $40 000.
She was subsequently offered by Balmoral Stud on the 2013 Emperor’s Palace Ready To Run Sale, where Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum went to R1,2 million for her.
Tamaanee, who has built up a great relationship with S’Manga Khumalo, could now be aimed at the Vodacom Durban July, with her first target being the G1 Woolavington Stakes.
