Drakenstein’s promising young sire Philanthropist is on track to defend his Leading Synthetic Sires Crown. The strapping chestnut, who was North America’s Leading Sire on All Weather in 2014, is once again on top of that table, with his runners having amassed over $1.7 million this season.
This places the blue blooded horse clear of such outstanding sires as Candy Ride, Ghostzapper, Smart Strike and Stormy Atlantic –to name but a few.
Philanthropist enjoyed a weekend to remember when he had a treble at Woodbine.
His daughter Thalias Fire picked up an allowance over 1700m on Friday, son, Coltnamedsue broke his maiden in facile fashion when stretching clear to win over 1000m on Saturday, while Philanthropist filly Hot Kiss picked up an allowance over 1700m on Canadian International day on Sunday.
To date, Philanthropist, whose first small crop produced champions Pender Harbour and Phil’s Dream, has been represented by the earners of over $13 million and this total continues to climb weekly.
The son of Kris S also proved popular in the sales ring this weekend, when his offspring made a good impression at the CTS Johannesburg Ready To Run Sale.
A Philanthropist filly, consigned by the Beaumont Stud, was knocked down to Mayfair Speculators for R700 000 – making her the fourth top filly sold at the 2015 RTR Sale. At the same sale, a Philanthropist colt, consigned by Balmoral, was sold to Brian Burnard for R400 000.
