The latest news roundup from the KZN Breeders Club:-
A big congratulations to Summerhill Stud on their outstanding achievement of receiving their 10th Equus Award for National Leading Breeder, as well as to the Scott Bros for their Equus Champion Sprinter, awarded to Talktothestars, a brilliant achievement from our breeders in KZN.
Mick Goss and his team were on hand to receive their 10th Equus Award for the National Leading Breeders title, an outstanding achievement indeed. Summerhill produced 39.7% runners to winners for the 2015/2016 season, and bred several Graded Stakes winners including dual Gr1 winner Rabada and Gr2 winner, Heaps Of Fun. Mick Goss, looking the picture of health gave an emotional speech and thanked his team as well as all those who had supported him through his illness at the beginning of the year.
The Scott’s were on hand to receive the award for their son of Overlord, Gr1 Tsogo Sun Sprint winner Talktothestars, who took home Equus Champion Sprinter from a strong category. The big bay gelding trained by Coenie De Beer has had a phenomenal season, winning and placing at Kenilworth, Turffontein and the tracks in KZN in multiple Graded Stakes races. The Scott Bros received last year’s Equus Award for Champion Stayer, awarded to the now deceased Mogok gelding, Wild One.
Congratulations to all concerned on their outstanding achievements!
We have had some really great stallion news coming in, particularly that of Crusade and Flying The Flag – their Galileo sisters have each won a Gr1 and Gr2 respectively and it makes us look all the more forward to what the stallions progeny will achieve on the track. Read more about the wins from Seventh Heaven (Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks) and Rhododendrum (Gr2 Debutante Stakes in Ireland).
A big thank you to Bush Hill Stud for their outstanding stallion day once more, where Flying The Flag was introduced to the breeders. An incentive of R100 000 is being offered to the breeder that produces the first Graded Stakes winner by Flying The Flag, who will stand for R20 000 in his first season this year.
Racing news in from the National 2YO Sale is that Just As Well has produced a juvenile champion colt in Kenya, unbeaten from his first three starts. The colt named As Paragon sold for R40 000 at the 2015 National 2YO Sale, bred in partnership by Jill Fox of The Fort Stud and Out Of Africa Stud. As Paragon has been nominated as favourite for the Kenya Guineas to be run in January 2017. Well done to Jill Fox on a super achievement!
The first foals of Capetown Noir and Linngari are emerging from the various farms (Hadlow, Piemonte and Summerview Stud) all and we will be reporting on them very soon. Please send through your foal pictures as we would love to share them! The Scott Bros recently had The Apache‘s full sister Bold Pocahontas foal a Crusade filly, her first foal. The Apache will cover his first KZN season at Highdown Stud for a service fee of just R6000, and he is free to certain mares – contact the Scott Bros for more information.
The KZN Breeders Premium Scheme is in full swing and the forms are available on the website at the following link. Please contact Dhev Moodley at Gold Circle should you require any further assistance.
