Jeff Lloyd boots home 7 at Sunshine Coast

Jeff Lloyd wins G1 Hong Kong Mile on Able One

On Wednesday, 30 November 2016, Jeff Lloyd had his winning-most day of riding in Australia, bringing home 7 winners on the 12 race Sunshine Coast card, bettering the previous record for most metropolitan wins in a day.

‘The Guv’ as he is known to fans, had 11 carded rides on the Sunshine Coast card, posting places in races 2 and 4 before going on to win races 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 aboard Linlithgow, Sista Act, I Am The Sculptor, Jill’s Charm, Biantic, Sweet Shamrock and Plucky Girl respectively. It was also a memorable day for Gold Coast trainer Toby Edmonds, who saddled 5 of them. Not a bad afternoon at the office.

Of course, it’s not the first time Jeff has had such a successful day, having already chalked up 7 winners on a single day’s card on three previous occasions back in South Africa. When we contacted him to wish him well, Jeff confirmed, “Yes I have done it three times in SA, 11 February 2001 at Scottsville, Clairwood 16 June 1995 and once at Turffontein, but I don’t have the date of that one.” We guess one stops counting after a while !

This week’s feat, which comes on the back of him booting home 5 winners from 9 rides at Eagle Farm race track back in September, is made all the more remarkable after Jeff fought his way back from a life-threatening stroke in March 2013. His recovery, crowned by him claiming the Brisbane Metropolitan Premiership last season, is surely one of the greatest feats in Australian racing. After a flying start to his current term, Jeff is on target to smash his tally of 80 metropolitan winners from 2015-16 and is the clear front-runner on both the metropolitan and statewide ladders in 2016/17.

Good on ya, Jeff !
