James Goodman – calling it a day

The total no reserve dispersal sale of Kilimanjaro Racing (Pty) Ltd and partners will be held under the auspices of Bloodstock South Africa at Summerveld on 16 December 2017 at 10h30.

The sale signals the end of a long career for charismatic KZN trainer James Goodman.

In a moving foreword to the sale catallogue, Goodman tells how his vision and hope of establishing a boutique training yard at Summerveld was destroyed by the well publicised National Horseracing Authority caffeine case.

Owners stopped reinvesting and he could not get new blood into his yard.

It is sad losing such a prominent personality from the training ranks. I know we will still have him on media but it will not be the same.

  2. Judith says:

    Why did owners stop investing?

  3. Judith says:

In fact let us look at a great example of owners supporting trainers under fire. Henry Cecil during his most difficult times had the support and the loyalty of Prince Khaled Abdulla. Result: Frankel and Cecil dying honoured and revered. I ask again, why have owners left Goodman? In fact, how loyal, honourable are owners? What does it take to drive an owner from the yard?

  4. Mashie says:

I find it hard to believe that positive is the reason owners don’t invest in the yard. Look at some of the top trainers who have the odd positive – they are still top trainers
