Session 1 of the brand new CTS April Yearling Sale was completed on Thursday evening with the highest price of R700 000 going the way of Vaughan Marshall who took home a smartly-bred Silvano colt.

Our dual champion sire, Silvano is always in strong demand and this colt, consigned by Klawervlei Stud, had many admirers, hailing from the family of Horse Of The Year, Legislate.

The CTS April Yearling Sale is a combination of the CTS March and the Emperors Palace Select Sales. The market continues to be a tough one with buyers holding the ascendancy.

The sale achieved an aggregate in the first session of R13 220 000, with an average of R161 219 and a median of R105 000.

Of the 117 lots catalogued in the first session, 103 went through the ring with 82 being sold.

Klawervlei Stud were far and away the leading vendors with their 31 lots grossing R7 020 000 for an average of R226 451.

On the buyer’s bench, Bass Racing led the way with 6 lots totalling R1 365 000 for an average of R227 500. They were closely followed by Chris van Niiekerk’s Rainbow Beach Trading, who also found 6 yearlings, but at an aggregate of R1 260 000 for an average of R210 000.

What A Winter topped the sires tables with his 7 offspring going for an aggregate of R1 855 000 at an average of R265 000.

Master Of My Fate also sold 7 for an aggregate of R970 000 and an average of R138 571.
