July Pack Trimmed

First acceptance stage

Exactly a third of the 69 original entries for the R4.25-million Gr1 Vodacom Durban July, including three horses featuring on the first July Log, were withdrawn at the first acceptance stage on Monday for Africa’s greatest race to be run over 2200m at Greyville in Durban on Saturday, July 7.

Majestic Mambo – acceptor – headed for a big date?

The five-year-old Silvano mare Silvan Star from the Glen Kotzen stable, that was placed seventh on the Log, and the Dennis Drier-trained three-year-old Dynasty filly Lady In Black – ninth on the Log – were withdrawn along with the Silvano filly Wind Chill from the Joe Soma yard that was on the outside looking in.

Another notable withdrawal was the three-year-old Silvano gelding Silva’s Bullet from the Dean Kannemeyer stable that had been touted as a horse to follow and a potential star in the making.

Mike de Kock, who had eight nominees has not accepted with four of his horses including the filly Nother Russia that has been retired and the three-year-old Dynasty gelding Noble Secret that had finished fourth in both the Gauteng Guineas and the SA Classic and third in the recent SA Derby at Turffontein.

.Takingthepeaqce – not going for July

Also out of the big race is the stable’s exciting filly Takingthepeace. The three-year-old  ran a gallant race but could only manage fourth place in the SA Oaks at Turffontein where she was bidding to win the Triple Tiara. She had won the first two legs, the Gauteng Fillies Guineas and the SA Fillies Classic, but found the 2 450m trip just a little too far on the day.

The second declarations are due on Monday June 18 and final supplementary entries due on Monday, June 18.

Can not Understand Mike de Kock.Put in Horses that have no Chance, but can you believe it, that he Scratched TAKINGTHEPEACE.This Guy is not interested in Winning ‘July’ anymore, must Rather campaign overseas. Does Really not know what he is Doing.

    1. Editor says:

      You being serious Riaan?

    2. Pottie says:

Riaan , you are Hilarious , one of the most successful trainers in SA history with at least 4 Durban July winners trophies in his cabinet , not sure what horses you are referring to when you say ” put in horses that had no chance ”
The lowest rated horse nominated by MDK carries a MR 100 and a progressive 3 year old .
At least 16 horses rated lower than 100 in first nominations , seems to me you took some ante post on ” taking the peace ” 🙂

      1. Riaan. says:

Like a Panther is another Example. How can this horse Run. Ended about 6th or 7th the other day.
        This is a Joke.

  2. Deon Anthony says:

It will take 3 centuries for anyone to learn What MDK has forgotten

    1. Riaan. says:

Hi Deon. You Forgot that their was a Syd Laird.

  3. WILLIAM MILKOVITCH says:

He’s a Gr1 winner by Brave Tin Soldier

      Tendon injury.
      Exceptional work.
Can’t fetch a price with injury status
Tendon could go in next gallop, so a risk in any format

  4. WILLIAM MILKOVITCH says:

    Thanks Gentlemen

  5. Kay says:

Chris, a brilliant response. Concise and to the point. Thank you!
