Gauteng-based Callan Murray and Cape rider Grant van Niekerk have been granted a part-season Club Jockey’s licence for the 2018/2019 racing season to commence on 16 July 2018 and to expire on 17 February 2019, both dates inclusive.

Grant van Niekerk

A year ago Murray, a former SA Champion Apprentice, won Hong Kong’s Gr3 Sha Tin Vase on the 88/1 rank outsider, Lucky Year at only his third meeting in a stint there. He also spent time in Australia.

Van Niekerk, who won this year’s Sun Met on Snaith champion Oh Susanna, will be making his Hong Kong debut.

What an opportunity – wish them all the best

  2. Gavin says:

Grant is a brillant jock but he causes way too much interference… Hong kong stewards will not tolerate him .

  3. Dennis Isaacs says:

Grant van Nie kerk is an absolutely brilliant jockey and will only make South Africa proud and I rate him as good if not better than Dougie White

  4. Robert says:

Grant & Callan are both very good young jockeys. However I believe that in the Western Cape, Aldo Domeyer is the better jockey and I would also rate Lyle Hewitson ahead of Callan Murray.

  5. Taki Takitaki1515 says:

Callan Murray will make it in Hong Kong big time as for Grant I agree with Gavin he won’t make it, he’s definitely not great at best very average
