July Runner-Up May Go For Gold Cup

Season climax could be a spectactle

The build-up to the SA Champions Season climax on Super Saturday 28 July has begun in earnest with a bumper entry received for the day’s features.

The Gold Cup meeting is the final feature race meeting of the season and includes four Grade 1 races aside from the R1,25 million Gold Cup which is a Grade 3 but is still South Africa’s premier race for stayers.

Saturday’s July runner-up Made To Conquer is now rated a 108 and could carry top -weight for the Gold Cup.

The Grade 1 races include the R1 million Mercury Sprint, R1 million World Sports Betting Champion Stakes and the two most important Grade 1 races for two-year-olds over 1600m, the Premier’s Champion Stakes and the Thekweni Stakes.

Other features on the day include the Grade 2 Gold Bracelet, and two other Grade 3 races, the Umkhomazi Stakes and The Debutante.

Entry tickets for the eLan Gold Cup meeting to be run at Greyville Racecourse on the day are now on sale through Computicket.

Tickets cost R80 but includes a R30 tote betting voucher that is redeemable on course on the day.
