The Shadlee Show Rolls On

Gutsy win by Drakenstein-bred mare

Jockey Shadlee Fortune continued his early season resurgence when he steered the hardy Philanthropist mare Sea Bean to a smooth victory in the R110 000 Diamond Stayers at Flamingo Park on Saturday.

Shadlee rode a winner at the Vaal on Thursday, scored a feature success at Fairview on Friday and made it a terrific treble of far-flung venues when he pitched up at Kimberley to give Tienie Prinsloo’s smart 5yo a polished ride to beat her male counterparts.

Tracking the leader Rockefeller from third base on the rail for much of the 2200m non black-type feature race, Fortune sent Sea Bean into the lead at the 400m.

Despite drifting out under pressure from Netherby Hall down her inside, Sea Bean was always going the better and was full of running as she went on to beat longshot Netherby Hall in a time of 147.43 secs by 1,75 lengths, with a further 4.25 lengths back to pacemaker Rockefeller.

The fancied runners generally failed to perform with, amongst others, Warrior Stone (4-1) attracting plenty of support but running a dismal 18 lengths back.

The Drakenstein Stud-bred Sea Bean is a daughter of Philanthropist (Kris S) out of Love Jeddah (Danehill) who won at 1100m in Australia.

She has won 5 races with 9 places from 24 starts for stakes of R359 400.

Full of confidence, Shadlee is a man to follow!
