A Real Gem!

A star is born

There was always little doubt that Dean Kannemeyer’s 2016 Gr1 SA Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess would be a broodmare prospect of note and Khaya Stables’ magnificent chestnut athlete looks to have produced something quite special on her maiden delivery.

Based at the magnificent champion producing Varsfontein nursery out at Paarl, Real Princess (Trippi) foaled a 60kg bay colt by Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) on Tuesday evening.

Described as a big colt and very leggy, the youngster stands over ground and is deep through the girth.  Said to be exceptional for a first foal with great quality, the mating will be worth repeating, according to a spokesman for the champion farm.

Star athlete – Real Princess

Bred by Klawervlei Stud, Real Princess is out of the once winning Fort Wood mare, Pagan Princess. She is  half-sister to the well-performed Cape Guineas winner and new Klawervlei sire, William Longsword (Captain Al). Real Princess was sold for R2,7 million on the Cape Premier Yearling Sale Book.

Winner of the 2012 G1 L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate, the newborn colt’s sire Gimmethegreenlight enjoyed a top season in 2017/18, with his offspring winning the Gr1 Daily News 2000, Gr2 Durban Golden Horseshoe, Gr2 Highlands Stud Camellia Stakes, Gr3 Tony Ruffel Stakes, Listed East Cape Paddock Stakes, Listed Secretariat Stakes and the Listed Gatecrasher Stakes.

South Africa’s Champion First Crop Sire in 2015-2016, Gimmethegreenlight has an exceptional, ten strong draft at the National Two Year Old Sale which started on Thursday.

Day 2 of the sale commences Friday at 11h00.
