The South African jockeys scheduled to compete in Tuesday’s PGI Jockeys Challenge at Kranji in Singapore, have secured 13 rides between them at Sunday’s Kranji meeting – to “test the water”.
Tabnews reports that SA national champion Hewitson and Yeni have rides in the feature race of the day, the Gr1 Raffles Cup – the first leg of Singapore’s Triple Crown.
The jockeys’ bookings were arranged by Singapore-based SA racing personality Gareth Pepper, who said Kranji trainers went out of their way to help and that they hold SA riders Lyle Hewitson, Muzi Yeni and Aldo Domeyer in high regard.
Yeni has seven mounts, Hewitson four and Domeyer two – a third engagement having dropped away.
“Muzi has good chances on Michael Clements’ Eye Guy, an exciting horse in Race 6, and on Nova Strike in the Raffles Cup (Race 9). This horse won a Group 3 last time.
“Lyle has a winning chance in Race 6 on Zac Kasa for trainer Clifford Brown. He was second in a Group 1 sprint two starts back. Lyle’s also on the progressive Paddington for Stephen Gray in Race 11.”
In the Raffles Cup, Hewitson partners Bahana for trainer Stephen Gray.
“Aldo has two Place chances, on Mr Fortune in in Race 6 and on River Golden in Race 10,” added Pepper.
TAB will operate a special Pick 6 pool – boosted by a TAB bonus – on the Jockeys Challenge race meeting on Tuesday.
The pool will start with a R150,000 add-in from TAB and the total net pool is expected to be about R400,000.
