A Fearless Performance

Vercingetorix off the mark

Maine Chance Silvano stallion Vercingetorix got off the mark with just his second runner when Vaughan Marshall’s Fearless Warrior caught the eye on debut in a Maiden Juvenile Plate run over 1000m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

An hour earlier, Vercingetorix’ first runner Astrix showed pace on his debut to finish third in an 800m scurry at Turffontein.

Bred by John Koster, who was part of the breeding team who produced Vercingetorix, the winner is out of Captain Al three-time winner War Path and cost R275 000 on the 2018 CTS April Yearling Sale.

Ridden by Anton Marcus, Fearless Warrior was well supported in the betting.

He  tracked the pacy Emerald Band before drawing away over the final 250m to beat his late finishing stablemate Path Of Choice by 2,25 lengths in a time of 61,68 secs.

One of 20 Gr1 winners sired by fellow Maine Chance resident Silvano, Vercingetorix is one of two graded stakes winners produced by National Assembly matron National Vixen.

Vercingetorix has seven lots on offer at the 2019 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.

He stands for a 2018 fee of R30 000.
