Extra Meeting For Gauteng

17 January at Turffontein

Lightning and thunderstorms have continued to plague race meetings on the Highveld with Races 4 to 8 abandoned at the Vaal on Thursday, six on Tuesday 8 January and two on Sunday 6 January.

In order to compensate for the loss of these races, Phumelela have scheduled an additional night race meeting at Turffontein (Standside Track) on Thursday, 17 January.

A programme of races to be run on the night will be disseminated shortly.

Entries will close on Friday 11 January at 9am and Declarations at 11am.

Night meeting? Who is going to waste money on that race card? A breakfast-at-races would have been a safer bet!

When will Phumelela ever listen to anyone. Years and years ago Mr Jaffee told Phumelela to start racing early in the Gauteng in the summer season because of thunderstorms. Yesterday when I saw the first race at 13.25 I just laughed. I knew the meeting would never “end”.!!! If the first race was at 12.00 with 25/30 minuites intervals they would have completed 6/7 races. But no….why would Phumelela ever listen to geniune good ideas!!!!!
