Vaal – Abandoned Again

Only three races run

For the second time this week, lightning in the surrounding area forced the abandonment of the Vaal racemeeting.

Only three races were run on Thursday 10 January.

On Tuesday 8 January, four races were completed before the same weather type moved in.

Gauteng racing is becoming a joke. The umpteenth time that racing has been abandoned. Surely Phumelela has to do something different! They cannot control nature, but they can start thinking differently. They should have only 7 races twice or thrice a week and start at 11:30 with 30 minute intervals. That way the racing will be over by 2;30pm as the lightning storms seen to arrive in the late afternoon.

You seem to forget how important international links are for the bottom line. Early start would not be clever.

  2. Michael Jacobs says:

That’s not my problem, I’m the punter and the customer. That’s Phumelela’s problem. They must decide if they want to prioritise local or international customers. Last time I looked their mandate from the Gambling board was SA racing.

  3. Rian says:

Agree with you 100% Michael Jacobs

  4. Dean Demont says:

Karel with all due respect, I cannot agree with you. The revenue received from the tuppence of overseas input cannot compare with the amount that is lost, by them abandoning a meeting here. The pick 6 pool as well as the jackpot pool is refunded, that’s besides the balance of various pools accumulated in the other races… The racing authorities (* edited) have no idea whatsoever. They start a race meeting at 13:25 with the hope that the elements of nature won’t play a part…, End of the day it’s run to suit their pockets and us the punter must accept the result thrown at us..

  5. Roderick Mattheyse says:

I used to have the mentality of getting upset when meetings were abandoned or moved, robbing me of opportunities to have a runner or punt, or having long awaited good draws turn bad. But to my dismay the sun rose the next day serving up more opportunities.

Executing the editors good advice is making things easier to see the sunrise in the mornings

  6. Jimmy says:

I agree will everyone except Karel. Earlier starts need to be considered.

  7. James George says:

If France Galop. told Phumelela to start racing early for what ever reason, then racing will start early. So everyone who wants early starts should brush up on their French and give France Galop a call.

  8. Gavin says:

Well said Micheal.. Karel we don’t care about the overseas people..
