Anton Marcus continues to lead the SA national log with his win tally of 124 achieved at an extraordinary strike-rate of 31 %.
While rare blank sheets at Greyville on Friday evening, where he rode three seconds, and Kenilworth on Saturday, where his best was a third on Chimichuri Run in the Diadem, leave him on an unlikely ten ride no win streak, he is bound to bounce back at Greyville today.
The eight race card sees the Bipot off in the first at 13h00 and the Hill partnership’s Genereight looks a fair bet. She is no star, but Marcus has ridden her before and she is overdue to win after placing at all of her five starts to date.
The Chesney van Zyl-trained Sea Venture stands out as a possible Pick 6 banker when she lines up in a FM Maiden Plate over 2000m on the Polytrack.
Tabnews report that she is by far the best-weighted runner in this nine-horse field, and on merit rating should have absolutely no trouble outclassing this lot as she runs off a rating of 75 while the average of this contest is a modest 61.
This three-year-old daughter of Dynasty has solid Highveld form having only run out of the money once in six appearances. And considering she was shockingly drawn at No 13 in a 16-horse field in her most recent offering – she ran an absolute cracker – coming from off the pace to finish a commendable third behind Princess Lomita over 1600m, beaten a rapidly diminishing 1.15 lengths.
The great news for Sea Venture’s loyal supporters is, that form line has worked out beautifully, producing a winner.
The manner in which she finished off her race strongly suggests she will prove most lethal over Sunday’s 2000m trip.
