Feature Treble For Matchett

Future looks bright as youngsters star

Hollywood sponsored trainer Paul Matchett bounced back in style with a feature treble at Turffontein on Saturday. He will be feeling particularly upbeat that all three winners are youngsters with bright futures.

After his victories in the afternoon’s 2yo double features, Matchett’s lightly raced See You Tyger looked a long shot and duly started at 14-1 in the competitive R150 000 Listed Bauhina Handicap.

Jarryd Penny rode a cracker as he settled See You Tyger behind the action and left things on a knife edge – switching his mount late and going to fetch the year older Pretty Penny as the Alec Laird runner looked a winner late in the 1000m contest.

But such was See You Tyger’s momentum that she went right past Pretty Penny to win by just over half a length in a time of 57.89 secs.

Third placed Winter Watch was 2,25 lengths further back.

The Limpo Trading bred winner is a daughter of Alchemy stallion Where’s That Tiger (Storm Cat) out of the one -time winning Ashaawes mare, Sioux She.

Paul MatchetT – nice treble

A winner of 3 races with 4 places from 12 starts, See You Tyger took her earnings to R287 100.

She was purchased by Fanie Bronkhorst for R30 000 off the 2017 CTS March Yearling Sale.

Her trainer Paul Matchett was champion three times in Zimbabwe and won every feature race in his home country. He is stabled at Randjesfontein where he has 50 horses in his care.

His best horse in South Africa was Tiza who won the Grade 1 Golden Horseshoe at Scottsville, a few seasons ago, before leaving for international shores.
