Clouds Unfold Won’t Run In Champions Season

Injury halts progress of top 3yo

Candice Bass-Robinson’s exciting 2019 Gr1 Majorca Stakes winner Clouds Unfold will not run in the SA Champions Season.

This was the unfortunate news emerging from the Bass-Robinson yard this week after the smashing daughter of What A Winter suffered an injury after arriving at Summerveld.

The Drakenstein owned and bred filly, who won her return pipe-opener sprint on 5 May when accounting for accomplished older male stablemate Dutch Philip, was expected to have made a major impact on the KZN fairer sex features in the next two months.

Clouds Unfold was a first Gr1 winner for her treble Equus champion sprinter sire What A Winter (Western Winter) when she beat the older champion Lady In Black on Met day in the prestigious feature. She has won 7 of her 9 starts and was also placed in the Cape Fillies Guineas.

A disappointed Candice Bass-Robinson,who made a flying start to the big season on the East Coast when Santa Clara won the KRA Fillies Guineas and Freedom Charter scored in the Poinsettia Stakes on the opening evening, told the Sporting Post that Cloud’s Unfold’s injury was thankfully not career threatening and that the very valuable chestnut was expected to return for the Cape Summer Of Champions Season next term.

This will also be bad news for the Charity Turf Challenge fans who included the Bass-Robinson star in their competition calculations.
