Regulator Talks To Industry

Two day conference

The gambling industry in South Africa could grow at a compounded rate of more than 5% to reach nearly R35 billion by 2021 and this growth requires a dialogue between stakeholders to lead to an effectively regulated and economically sustainable gambling industry.

The National Gambling Board (NGB) is hosting a 2-day conference on 18-19 July 2019 in Pretoria, under the theme, ‘The Gambling Regulators’ and Operators’ Dialogue’.

The NGB wishes to showcase the organisation, as a leader in the gambling industry, by sharing results of the latest research studies and encouraging discussions about the regulation of gambling with its stakeholders.

The aim of the conference is to:

  1. Expose latest trends, developments, challenges, best practices and happenings in the gambling industry
  2. Collaborate with stakeholders to achieve common future goals and objectives
  3. Network with peers to identify valuable resources for referrals and best practices
  4. Deliver a platform for mutual discussions of common interests
  5. Gain new insights, approaches and broad the depth of knowledge relating to gambling
  6. Connect with other stakeholders active in the gambling industry
  7. Offer an exhibition platform for industry players to introduce latest technology and tools

Gamble, cards, dice, game of chanceDelegates are expected from national government, the dti agencies, national and provincial gambling regulators, gambling operators and shareholders, manufacturers, test laboratories and associations in the gambling sector, such as the Casino Association of South Africa (CASA), Bingo Association of South Africa (BASA), South African Gambling Manufacturers Association (SAGMA), Limited Payout Industry, and others.

“We are delighted with the calibre of presenters at this conference, offering plenary sessions dealing with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) and the transformation of the gambling industry,” says Caroline Kongwa, the Accounting Authority of the National Gambling Board.

“The transformational aspect will be further covered in two separate abstract sessions, followed by gambling technology and regulation over the two days, making this an essential event for anyone in the industry.

“This conference will be of extreme interest to regulators, licensees, potential licensees, manufacturers and suppliers, laboratories and law enforcement agencies. The NGB will launch its National Gambling Registers at the conference.

“We also encourage civil society members to attend to broaden their depth of knowledge relating to NGB as an entity and the gambling industry as a whole, as part of our mandate is to provide a broad-based public education programme about the risks and socio-economic impact of gambling,” concludes Kongwa.
