HollywoodBets Supports Grooms

Sunday, 25 August 2019 saw a grooms soccer tournament held in Turffontein.  Coordinated by PMG (Progressive Movement for Grooms)’s Victor Ndwashu, the event was generously supported by HollywoodBets, who sponsored a trophy, soccer kits and refreshments.

Victor explains that he approached Hollywoodbets with the idea after meeting them at the recent National Gambling Conference.  “They were so kind, they really wanted to help us,” he says.

The event, held as a round robin, was contested by teams from Turffontein and the Vaal and with the Randjesfontein grooms being a late withdrawal, Hollywood put together a third team at short notice to make up the deficit.

The first round saw Turffontein take on Hollywood, with victory going the way of the Hollywood team.  However, as the sponsors, they forfeited going through to the next round and Turffontein played the Vaal in the final, with the Vaal team winning it on a penalty.

Hollywoodbets regional manager Charles Zama, who attended Sunday’s tournament in person, adds, “Victor explained that the grooms spend most of their time at the stables with the horses and wanted them to do something different for them.  It’s part of our business approach to give back to community where we can, and we saw this as an opportunity to reach out and assist.  Sport helps takes ones mind off other things and keep fit in the process.  It was good to see the grooms being able to get out of the work place, experience a different environment, interact with one another and have fun.”
