Durbanville Hosts Eight Races Today

First off at 13h35

S’manga Khumalo will not be riding at today’s eight-race Durbanville meeting.

The former champion was injured prior to the first race at Hollywoodbets Greyville last Friday evening.

His agent told the Sporting Post that all ex-rays and scans are clear and the top jockey is expected to  return at the Vaal on Thursday.  So watch the changes schedule for his replacements.

SP photographer Chase Liebenberg captured this shot of the Durbanville crowd last Saturday

The first race and Bipot opener is off at 13h35.

Rain has fallen overnight and the going is listed as ‘good’ per Tuesday afternoon. The official report will be updated later this morning.

The false rail is set at zero on the back straight with a 2m spur at approximately the 500m mark.

So is Nico Kritsiotis being flown down to call today’s races ? What happened to Rouvaun Smit? A man that called for 30 years suddenly disappears. C’mon Sporting Post, what’s the story? Did he win the Lotto?

  2. Brendon says:

@Jacob, as I understand from that lady with fine taste for LV bags and cash, it is so expensive to fly these days that she, as the previous owner of SAA, was unable to afford to flights yesterday from King Shaka to Jhb.

That said, the flights from JHB to Cape Town cost on average 2,5 times more. So, it may very well be that Phumelela is successfully implementing their cost cutting initiatives to conserve cash. While this subject matter might appear to be a bit on the higher grade side for most of us, I have no doubt that Phumelela will be able to explain how economical it is to pay Jhb rates for a commentator plus incur car hire costs plus hotel accommodation, if delays plus plus….

On a serious note, Is there nobody at Phumelela who questions the lack of common sense in almost everything that they do?

How come it’s acceptable for commentators to call PE and Mauritius racing from the TT studios in Rivonia but not for Durbanville and Kenilworth? Why?

Remember this statement from Phumelela’s SENS announcement yesterday:

“The Board remains committed to its transformation initiatives”

    Yeah right!!
