Hawwaam Won’t Run On Thursday

No bonus this week for Vaal punters

The likely highly anticipated reappearance for the second week running of Mike de Kock’s bomb Hawwaam, who accepted to run in a 1400m Pinnacle Stakes at the Vaal on Thursday, won’t happen.

The champion son of Silvano was withdrawn on Monday afternoon for reason of ‘insufficient recovery time’.

A forgettable late scratching from the Vodacom Durban July – that’s the last time we will mention that event – Hawwaam  went into the starting stall like a lamb last Thursday at his first run as a 4yo, broke on terms and ran out a very easy winner of a 1200m Pinnacle Stakes.

Why am I not surprised!!! Top stable, top trainer who changes his mind like the weather!

  2. Gavin says:

Well said nish… A joke that what it is.. He comes on TV and says one thing and changes his mind.. #soqrat

  3. Mike Miles says:

Wow! Scratched. Now there’s a surprise for you. Maybe there’ll be sufficient time for the horse to recover to run in the Met.

  4. Mickiel says:

He should run in a race at summer cup day but not in the Summer cup

  5. Pops says:

Did the stable not know that there was just 7 days between races.
Or did his very easy win of a 1200m Pinnacle Stakes take much more out of the horse than what the stable thought it would.

Mdk had every right to accept last thursday morning with hawwaam as who is to know if firstly the vaal weather turns and his race last thursday gets abandoned which has happened many times before in gauteng plus the fact if he had issues at the pens and never loaded …..Nobody is above the law but what he did is well within his rights and trainers do it week in and week out as the way nominations and scratchings are done in south africa trainers are forced to do so but because its hawwaam it makes headline news ..Mdk did what every other trainer would do which is the best for his horse and owners..

    Hilton is 100% right

  8. Kingston says:

Hawwaam was nominated for both races as the stable were not and can never be 100% sure that he’ll go down to post let alone load up. It was a backup plan of sorts. Imho, are we just upset that we don’t have a banker betting opportunity or do we actually care about the horse’s welfare. Come on guys.

5 horses scratched at Vaal “insufficient recovery time” that ran last week. I think Mdk knows more than all of us put together
