Vaal Today – Fun & Festivities

First race off at 11h55 - see the comments here

There are ten races carded at the Vaal today and a host of both human and equine celebrities are expected to descend on the venue for The Vaal Tri Festival.

In conjunction with the sponsors, Socrasync Toro Ya Africa, a decision was made to move two of the most prolific races on the Highveld calendar to the Vaal.

The joint venture of Socrasync and Toro Ya Africa has projects around the country and recently came on board to sponsor the Listed Algoa Cup in Port Elizabeth, which was a magnificent success.

The Gr3 Victory Moon Stakes over 1800m, the most important build-up race to the Gauteng Summer Cup, and the Listed Gardenia Stakes for fillies and mares over 1000m, will be run today.

Unless you have badge – owners, trainers, Racing Association, Racing It’s A Rush etc that will give you free entry to the course – there will be an entrance fee of R50.

But what a line-up you will get for that nominal fare. Some of the best entertainers in the country will be seen in action at the Vaal and leading the way is 24-year-old singer/songwriter sensation Lady Zamar.

Other celebrities on show are Vetkoek & Mahoota, Karlar Debsa, Doctor Khumalo, MJV De Boi, Simphiwe Majola Thulisa and King Deetoy.

Apprentice Cole Dicken has ridden his 20th winner and will now claim 2,5kg.

The false rail is set at 3,5m on the back straight and bend, with a 3,5m spur at the 600m mark. It is zero on the outside rails to the pull-up area.

I would have to ask why Callan Murray did not use the persuader once on Ikigai…….the horse needed persuading. I honestly would not be at all happy if I was the owner ( knowing the horse hanged the last time )….Fourie would have slapped that horse home…..

  2. Frankie says:

Frankie Zackey….Graham you should get your ducks in a row…Raymond Danielsen was on board…I think Jockeyship won that race Great ride from Gavin Lerena…the old Gavin is back

  3. Rian says:

I think he thought he had the race won , but it didnt look good, did you count how many times Faydherbe hit the first race winner at Kenilworth
As a matter of interest who was the idiot photographer leg out the Vehicle taking pics during Soqrats very good win, NHRA Safety plan ???????/

    1. Editor says:

Jockey B Fayd’Herbe was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop) in that he used his crop more than 12 times during the race whilst riding the horse GO MAN GO. Jockey Fayd’Herbe signed an admission of guilt and was fined R 1500,00

  4. G says:

I attended the race meeting at the Vaal yesterday. There was certainly no hint of any glitz and glamour or festivities to speak of other then a (empty)beer tent and jumping castles for the kids. There was not even any sign post of the sponsors anywhere on the course. On arrival there was no entrance fee as advertised. All very disappointing but not totally unexpected. What went wrong?

    1. Editor says:

Noticed the sponsor signage on the starting stalls and saddle cloths.
      That’s interesting, G
