Hawwaam Draws Gate 12

All set for the big one

Favourite Hawwaam drew barrier gate 12 when the draws were announced on Tuesday afternoon in front of media and invited guests at the Grand West Hotel for the R3 million Gr1 Sun Met to be run at Kenilworth on Saturday  1 February 2020.

Hawwaam’s big-race rider Anton Marcus told the Sporting Post that the 12 gate ‘gives me options’.

Sun Met Chairman Hassen Adams, a past winning Met owner, confirmed his support for racing and said that sponsors were ‘like dinosaurs’ but that Sun International was looking forward to a long association with the Cape flagship feature.

Racing Association CEO Larry Wainstein was also present and called the Met ‘the race of South Africa’. He said racing was going through times but was resilient and reminded all those assembled that ‘no one person was bigger than the game’.

Given the size of the field and the fair nature of the Kenilworth track, none of the draws allotted are likely to cause undue sleepless nights for the connections looking to win one of South Africa’s most prestigious races.

Justin Snaith second-stringer Bunker Hunt drew 2 but the Cape champion trainer indicated he would have preferred a wider slot.

Last year’s winner Rainbow Bridge pulled a 5 gate and will be ridden by international rider, Ryan Moore.

All those drawn wide from gate 10 to gate 14 have a huge chance

  2. Cecil Pienaar says:

I saw Steve Hofmeyr earlier as he got off the boat we’re on now. I asked if he’s going to The Sun Met

  4. Rian says:

Vardy is the Boom horse, Hawaam can’t possibly be a betting proposition and as the Sheik says he should be out the Country already, he must be sick of all the Bullshit being fed to him
I think he might still buy a few but not to race here
Cecil, enjoy your boat trip, but please include Bunker and Twist in your Quartet
Bunker Hunt looked big to me when he ran to Hawaam and will improve lengths and Twist of Fate can only improve under Adam
Having a Champ does wonders to the rest of Stable
Praying for no delays and fair racing on Met Day and are Chinese etc betting into our Pools ED ???

Hawaam will win the sun met the race in the Queens plate didn’t suit him everything went wrong Anton Marcus the jockey that selects his mounts has stuck with hawaam through many rides because of course Marcus the professional he is knows a top horse the distance and with the one run hawaam had in the cape now this horse should win I say 1.5 lengths minimum DONT judge this horse on his last run this horse is a superstar in the making

  9. Raveen says:

Don’t write off Hawaam….this is his race.

  10. Vusi says:

There’s one think I don’t understand about how a favourite of a big race is selected. seems to me the bookmarks if they are afraid of a horse then the horse becomes a favourite like in case of hawwaam.

Three horses are rated above hawwaam of which means those horses could be better than hawwaam even though hawwaam never met all of them.My question is that hawwaam is a favourite of the met because someone is afraid of him or a jockey. I will be happy if someone can answer my question.

I want to make money out of hawwaam before he go to overseas.

  11. Shaun says:

Vardy to win met twist of fate main danger.. Watch this space
