Run Fox Run is only filly in the 2020 renewal

The Cape Flying Championship top three of Russet Air, Bold Respect and Kasimir return for the R350 000 Khaya Stables Gr2 Diadem Stakes on the Cape Derby undercard.

The Diadem is run over 1200m.

The inaugural running of the Diadem WFA Stakes was on Saturday, 30 Nov 1957, when it was won by Mr J.W. Hill’s 3yo filly Tetrina.

Grant van Niekerk celebrates as Lanner Falcon wins the 2015 Diadem Stakes

It changed to a conditions race in 2015, when the fairer sex filled the top two places – Mike Bass-trained Lanner Falcon beating stablemate Fly By Night.

The only filly in the 2020 renewal is the Australian-bred Run Fox Run, who tasted defeat for the first time when finishing just over a length fourth in the Cape Flying Championship last time.

The dark horse in this race must be Undercover Agent. He’ll have to win something before he goes off to stud, if that’s still the plan ?

    1. Editor says:

      Hi Cecil
Seems the connections put his stud career on hold for another season.
He hasn’t really done a lot this tern but probably defends his Gr2 Drill Hall title on 1 May.
He is a Gr1, Gr2 and Gr3 winner already and a big earner.

  2. Cecil Pienaar says:

Also true Mr Ed, the records are there. Stud pedigree won’t be affected with one, not so good, last season.

Very brave of the connections to hold him back in such strong company. I hope (for them) there is at least one big one left…

It seems Durbs will be the place to be from May onwards. 👍

OH yes and off course the best track in Africa, Sc😎ttsville.

Interesting R7 t-m, see Seattle Force at 7/2, strong front running horse, can go all the way. Weather definitely won’t interfere, another hot day predicted

    Good Night…
