Congrats, Eric!

Third Cape Derby success for veteran

Congratulations to Eric Sands for winning the Gr1 Cape Derby for the third time on Saturday.

On a sentimental Sunday, we take a trip back in time to Milnerton on 16 January 1988.

Eric saddled Wexford Boy under Glen Hatt to win the Gr1 Cape Flying Championship.

Enjoy the wander down memory lane. The video is by kind courtesy of Eric’s son,  Francis.

Agents Image – the most pitch-black horse I’ve seen.

Follow Royalty – Mark Watters stable…I think

Espirit du Corps – Eric Fordred

Lord Randolph – the champion wind ducker @ Milnerton _ used the wind to beat Sunera

Colour Parade – another who likeda bit of cover

and all the white jackets in the parade ring from the Red Hanger January clearance sales @ Edgars

Nice end to the Cape Summer season. We witnessed some excellent racing. No real domination by a single stable. Congrats Eric. It is quite fitting that you should bag the final race.
