The Big One – It’s Online!

22 to 24 April at the TBA Sales Complex

The catalogue for South Africa’s oldest premier yearling sale, the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale, is now online.

It can be viewed at www.bsa.co.za

More than 470 yearlings were catalogued for this year’s sale, with the majority of this country’s leading breeders set to be represented at South Africa’s premier yearling sale in 2020.

Once again, this year’s National Sale will be held at the TBA complex in Germiston, with the three day sale set to commence on April 22nd and conclude on April 24th.

The sale made history last year, when the Silvano colt, Masaki, was knocked down to Shadwell South Africa for R9 million, making the brother to Gr1 Klawervlei Majorca Stakes winner Nightingale the most expensive thoroughbred ever sold at public auction in South Africa.

Last year’s sale was supported by a host of international buyers, headed by Shadwell, the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Bjorn Nelson, David Ferraris, Tony Millard, and James Bester, and a strong international buying bench is again expected for this year’s National Sale.

The lengthy list of champions purchased at the National Sale in recent years include all of Futura, Legislate, Legal Eagle and reigning South African Horse Of The Year Do It Again, as well as Kilindini and Missisippi Burning –the winners of this season’s G1 Cape Guineas and Gr1 World Sports Betting Cape Fillies Guineas respectively.

Top sires represented at this year’s National Sale include all of Dynasty, Duke Of Marmalade, Gimmethegreenlight, Ideal World, Oratorio, Querari, Silvano, Trippi, Var, Vercingetorix, and What A Winter.

This year’s National Sale also features a colt by Breeders’ Cup champion, and prominent North American sire, Uncle Mo, and this Mauritzfontein consigned colt is sure to attract his share of attention!

Stallions represented by first local yearlings at this year’s National Sale include all of G1 Secretariat Stakes hero Admiral Kitten, G3 Bavarian Classic winner Quasillo (the only son of Sea The Stars at stud in South Africa), Redoute’s Choice’s G1 winning son Rafeef, G1 Mercury Sprint winner Red Ray, Galileo’s G1 Ranvet Stakes winner The United States (a full-brother to G1 winners Hermosa and Hydrangea), and Cape Guineas winner William Longsword.

Brilliant Gr1 winning racemares, Athina (Soft Falling Rain colt), All Afire (Dynasty colt), Bambina Stripes (Rafeef colt), Imperious Star (Gimmethegreenlight colt), Lauderdale (Silvano filly), Little Miss Magic (Futura colt), Pine Princess (Silvano colt), Princess Victoria (Silvano colt), Rat Burana (Duke Of Marmalade colt), River Jetez (Silvano colt), and Royal Fantasy (Gimmethegreenlight colt) are all represented at this year’s National Yearling Sale, with more than 100 stakes winning mares in total having yearlings on sale.

There are also siblings to no fewer than 27 Gr1 winners in this year’s catalogue –an impressive collection by anyone’s standards.
