Duke’s Sha Tin Winner

Third Hong Kong win for Australian-bred gelding

Drakenstein Stud’s successful resident sire, and former Cartier Champion, Duke Of Marmalade enjoyed success at Sha Tin on Saturday when his son Hinyuen Swiftness won the Peridot Handicap over 1200m in fine style.

The 7yo gelding made it Hong Kong win number three when Hinyuen Swiftness stayed on to post a one and three quarter length win.

Out of the Canny Lad mare Stolen Girlfriend, Hinyuen Swiftness is one of 44 stakes winners sired by Duke Of Marmalade, the Cartier Champion Older Male of 2008.

Sire of more than 70 stakes horses in total, Duke Of Marmalade, a five time G1 winning son of Danehill, is best known as the sire of Gr1 winners Big Orange, Nutan, Simple Verse, Sound Of Freedom and Star Of Seville.

Duke Of Marmalade, whose first two South African crops have both already produced graded stakes winners, has 16 lots on the 2020 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale at end July.
