Ashley’s Gold Season

Pick 6 pool reaches R2 156 464!

Vaal trainer Ashley Fortune registered her maiden SA Champions Season stakes success when the once-raced, and appropriately named, Gimmethegreenlight colt Gold Season finished too strongly for the fancied Master Of Disguise to win the R85 000 Listed Gatecrasher Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday in good style.

Mrs Fortune went close in the Post Merchants with the smart CTS 1200 winner Invidia and was over the moon watching her lesser experienced colt get the better of Paul Peter’s clearly smart favourite Master Of Disguise, as if the latter was standing still in the final stages of the 1400m feature.

Showing good improvement on his Vaal 1200m fourth place on debut earlier in June, Gold Season came forward down the inside at 8-1 under Craig Zackey to win going away by 1,70 lengths in a time of 86,66 secs.

Master Of Disguise (7-4) may have found his exertions when fending off the threat of the nagging Crushing Force halfway down the home straight, too much and he was well beaten.

Trainer Mike Miller’s 50-1 Oratorio colt Royal Exhibit ran on well for third and produced a hefty place dividend of R18-60 for his supporters.

A Cape Premier Yearling Sale R375 000 buy, the winner was bred Nadeson Park Stud by the terrific Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) out of the four-time winning Rich Man’s Gold mare, Miss Gold Digger.

Raced by Preggie Somasundram, Gold Season has won 1 race with 1 place from his 2 starts for stakes of R56 125.

It was good to see the R250 000 carryover-boosted Hollywoodbets Greyville Pick 6 pool reach R2 156 464, with the outlets now open in KZN, Gauteng and some areas of Mpumalanga.
