Turffontein Incident – Inquiry Opened

Andrew Fortune suspended from racemeetings

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that it has opened an inquiry into an incident that occurred in the weighing room area at Turffontein Racecourse, after the running of Race 7 on Saturday, 24 October 2020.

In a  media release the NHRA state that after carefully considering the prima facie evidence, the provisions of Rule 91.2 have been enforced and an interim suspension has been imposed on Mr Andrew Fortune, a licenced Stable Employee and Colour Holder, from attending race meetings until such time as the outcome of the inquiry has been determined.

In a notice published on Sunday, Fortune Racing apologised for an incident that occurred at Turffontein.

‘Unfortunately due to the nature of this sport, emotions run high and incidents like this should not happen. Once I apologise’, wrote Ashley Fortune.
