Vaal Medical Facility – Jockeys Raise Concerns

Phumelela has undertaken to address concerns

The standard of standby medical care during racemeetings was under the spotlight at the Vaal on Thursday, when the jockeys raised concerns.

This is an excerpt from the official Stipes Report:

Prior to the running of Race 5, jockeys raised concerns regarding the medical vehicles on duty.

A delegation of jockeys were taken to the medical facility where they had an opportunity to view the vehicles and question the medical staff on duty.

Further concerns were raised regarding emergency medical procedures on raceday.

The operator has undertaken to address these concerns and furnish them with the necessary compliance certificates.

This caused a delay to the racemeeting and the remaining races were rescheduled.

We were unable to elicit a further comment from Phumelela or the Jockey’s Association.
