In a charming letter published by the Racing Post on Tuesday, 17 June 2014, HRH Queen Elizabeth wished all Ascot goers well.
The letter, typed on Windsor Castle letterheaded paper reads:-
Royal Ascot is one of Britain’s finest sporting events and it always gives me and my family great pleasure to attend.
I have been very fortunate to win as an owner at Royal Ascot, most recently with Estmate in the Gold Cup last year.
I would like to thank those of you who were here for the wonderful welcome the filly received after performing so well, and also those who were kind enough to send messages afterwards.
To win at Royal Ascot is challenging and I know how much work goes into preparing every one of the many horses racing during the week. All those involve deserve great credit, as well as our gratitude.
The very best of luck to all those taking part and I wish everyone here today an enjoyable visit to Royal Ascot.
