The QIPCO British Champions Series heads to Doncaster this weekend for a duo of high-class staying contests, with both the Betfred Doncaster Cup and the St Leger shaping up to be seriously competitive affairs.
The field for the final Classic of the year is headlined by Aidan O’ Brien’s progressive Queen’s Vase winner Illinois, who will be supported by the unexposed Coolmore pair Jan Brueghel and Grosvenor Square.
After a luckless run at the top-level in 2024, trainer David Menuisier has a genuine classic contender in Sunway.
The son of Galiway was a winner of the Gr1 Criterium International in France at two-years-old and was unlucky in running when finishing just outside of the places behind Goliath in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth QIPCO Stakes at Ascot in July.
Supplemented at a cost of £50,000, Ralph Beckett will be hoping to double his Betfred St Leger tally with Irish Oaks heroine You Got To Me, whilst Owen Burrows’ Deira Mile and Andrew Balding’s Wild Waves round off a stellar seven set to go to post in Saturday’s feature.
