KZN Breeders Awards 2018/19 - all the winners

The Middlefield Stud-bred Byword mare Camphoratus was crowned KZN Breeders Horse Of The Year for the 2018/19 season at the local breeding association’s annual awards evening held at the Fordoun Hotel in Nottingham Road on Saturday evening.

The Robbie and Shannon Hill-trained Camphoratus, won three awards on a glittering evening.

She  was purchased for just R50 000 by her trainer off the 2016 KZN Sibaya Yearling Sale and is out of an unraced US bred Horse Chestnut mare Wild Camphor – who was crowned Champion Broodmare on the evening.

Camphoratus won the Gr1 Empress Club Stakes last season.

Spring Valley Stud’s veteran Bruce le Roux was a popular choice for a well-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award, while Anita Akal acknowledged the contribution by longstanding breeder and veterinary surgeon, Dr Allen Bechard, through her Industry Achievement Award.

The KZN Breeders have made special mention of the sponsors of the individual awards and wish to thank them for their kind support.

Congratulations to all the winners.
