Has right of appeal against penalty & finding

The National Horseracing Authority confirms in a media release on Thursday 2 June that at an Inquiry held in Gqeberha on Friday 27 May 2022, which was finalised on Wednesday 1 June 2022, Jockey Greg Cheyne was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.

The particulars being that he failed to ride MARSH MARIGOLD out to the end of Race 6 at Fairview Racecourse on 8 April 2022 to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards and thus prejudiced his chances of obtaining first place.

Jockey Cheyne pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board after reviewing the evidence, found Jockey Cheyne guilty as charged.

After giving careful consideration to his riding record and all aggravating and mitigating factors, a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of forty-five (45) days was imposed.

Jockey Cheyne has the Right of Appeal against the finding and the penalty imposed.
