Caya Coco Comes Good

Querari filly stamps her authority

Paarl-based trainer Glen Kotzen cracked another SA Champions Season Feature when Caya Coco won the Gr2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes.

Caya Coco rewarded her fans who had been waiting for her to show the kind of form she displayed as a late 2yo when she beat the subsequently all conquering Captain’s Ransom as she won a double as a juvenile, with her third win in only 9 starts.

Caya Coco is a daughter of Maine Chance’s top-5 sire Querari and Right Approach mare Atlantic Beach, bred by Ndoro Stud/Applewood Trading.

Highest rated filly in the race and best weighted Wisteria Walk led the charge and looked to win this year’s Gr2 East Coast Radio Tibouchina Stakes. Wisteria Walk, also by Maine Chance sire Vercingetorix was runner up after Musi Yeni said they were tracking Richard Fourie on Keep The Lights On, with Zimbaba in 3rd by 1.65 lengths.

Glen Kotzen said, “I knew we were in with a chance when Snaith scratched their champion and we cracked a draw (3)”.  An excited Glen said he went way back with the breeder’s manager (Johan Loftus) remembering a star from the past in Ghostly Galleon who was the first horse he ever bought.  He was thrilled for owners Mark Greene and Brad Ralph.

The race was run in 84.56 seconds, which did nothing to detract from a creditable result from an open looking Tibouchina Stakes where many had chances.
