Dual July Winner Smashed Class Record

Benchmark stood for 11 years

Having his first run since a five length fourth-placed finish in the 2021 Cape Town Met, Justin Snaith’s 6yo dual Vodacom Durban July winner Do It Again made a winning return to race action at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday.

While the son of Twice Over was registering his first win since his sensational second July victory in 2019, and was given a genuine run for his money by Dean Kannemeyer’s 94 rated Sir Michael in receipt of 7,5kgs, Do It Again (129) actually broke the class record in the course of his hard earned success in the R80 000 Pinnacle Stakes.

He beat Sir Michael a short head, carrying a kilo more than the subsequent Gr1 Horse Chestnut Stakes winner Smart Banker when the son of Strike Smartly set the old class benchmark of 95,19 secs for the Hollywoodbets Greyville mile on 6 June 2009.

A side irony is that Smart Banker raced for gross stakes of R20 000 more in the same class almost 12 years ago.

Do It Again is currently at 25-2 in the Hollywoodbets Vodacom Durban July ante-post market.

He is ranked at 6 on the first Vodacom Durban July log.

The next big race log is anticipated after the running of the Gr1 Daily News 2000 on 29 May, but prior to the Hollywoodbets Gr1 Gold Challenge on 12 June.

This will afford the hosts an opportunity to slot  the 3yo’s into the big race pecking order.
