Trainer Vaughan Marshall’s astute move to aim for the Gr3 plum in Port Elizabeth on Friday and rather sidestep the lesser pickings against the Ramsden onslaught in the Kenilworth Listed feature on Saturday paid handsome dividends when the Avontuur-bred Jet Set Go made the R200 000 Gr3 Champion Juvenile Cup all her own with an impressive display of galloping.

Marshall has been spot on with his infrequent raids up the Garden Route and Jet Set Go stepped up from her 1000m maiden victory to the 1400m and put the local male stars to the sword in an impressive display.

Had she stayed at home she would have had to contend with the super smart looking Act Of War over a mile at Kenilworth on Saturday for substantially lesser stakes. So in the end, it made lots of good sense to hit the high road for the higher rewards.

Jet Set Go had shown exceptional pace at her first start but displayed terrific maturity and professionalism in only her second start here as she was settled just off the pace by MJ Byleveld in the thirteen strong field as the local hope and second favourite Pacyano tried to make all the running.

Inside the 300m marker, Byleveld gave the lovely galloper her head and she stretched smartly to win going away by 3,25 lengths in a time of 84,65 secs. She started 22 to 10 and beat the Snaith-trained Arniston who went off a 2 to 1 favourite and could do no better than run on for a non-threatening second.

Pacyano showed plenty of pace by had nothing to come late and was a further 0,75 lengths away in third.

The rest were well beaten.

Some really smart horses have cut their teeth in this race and the future looks rather bright for the winner.

Jet Set Go is now unbeaten in two starts and took her earnings to R165 625.

She was bred by Avontuur and was signed for at R500 000 by the Equine Group at the 2013 National Yearling Sale.

She races in the silks of Timen Stables.

Jet Set Go is by Jet Master out of the ten time winning Bletchley Park mare, Azabu Park, who was trained by Gary Alexander and numbered the 2002 Gr3 Jacaranda Handicap amongst her victories from 1000m to 2000m.
