With only seven meetings remaining in the Hong Kong season, just two winners separate the leading trainers, Caspar Fownes and John Size.
There is no Hong Kong racing today due to Royal Ascot.
A double by Size on Sunday halved the gap with Fownes currently on 69 wins for the season and Size on 67. “We’re just hanging in there and we’ll see what happens. I’ll just do my best,” said Size.
In third is Frankie Lor with 60 wins.
Size’s two wins on Sunday were with Blaze Warrior (Sebring-Liesele, by Exceed and Excel) who was having his first start in Hong Kong despite having arrived there more than a year ago.
“There were no particular problems, it just took him a while to get there and he seems all right now,” Size said.
“It was a good run, it seemed like a workmanlike win and he’s done everything well.” Size’s other victory was with Dashing Fit (Smart Missile-Plaque, by Medaglia d’Oro) who was on debut.
If Size can beat Fownes, it would be his twelfth Champion Trainer title in Hong Kong, and would make him the leading trainer in Hong Kong history.
Currently, he shares the honours with George Moore with eleven titles each.
