Cheers From Castle Corner Today?

The first race at Vaal kicks off at 12h40

Racing takes place on the Vaal Classic course this afternoon and eight races are carded.

After riding a treble at Turffontein on Tuesday, jockey Gavin Lerena has a full book of rides and will be looking to continue where he left off.

The first is due off at 12h40.

Jeffrey Syster rides Castle Corner (Pic – Candiese Lenferna)

The in-form stable of Paul Peter saddle Williamthefighter in Race 3. He was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1000m on this course.

His debut effort when finishing fourth over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course was encouraging. The son of Crusade does not meet a strong field and should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

Castle Corner from the Stuart Pettigrew stable may be the horse to close off the meeting. He showed very good signs of a form return in his last start over 1400m at Turffontein.

He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this course and distance. He has dropped to a competitive rating and from his good draw of two, he can notch up his third career victory.

Please note that Randall Simons will not be riding today.
