Unbeaten Rosier wins The Debutante

Glen Kotzen’s smart Kildonan filly Rosier announced herself as  way above average when she returned to the scene of one of her sire’s great victories when taking  the R200 000 Gr2 The Debutante run over 1200m at Scottsville on Sunday in her stride.

With all the attention given to the unbeaten Cape raider Arria and Duncan Howells’  debut winner Just Lucky, Rosier blew on the betting boards from 8 to 1 to 18 to 1 but put in a very professional performance to easily beat Mike Azzie’s Lady Ky by 0,75 lengths in a time of 71,42 secs.

Following on the heels of Jet Belle’s scintillating win in the Poinsettia Stakes a week earlier in the province, trainer Glen Kotzen would have been feeling bullish about his Champions Season prospects after a quiet run.

Rosier became the Yellow Star Stud based Kildonan’s first stakes winner when registering a gutsy win in mid March in the Listed East Cape Fillies Nursery and kept her unbeaten record intact with her third win in three provinces in the space of three month.

Her sire , a son of Rich Man’s Gold, was a top class racehorse, winning  five races that included the Gr1 Premier’s Champion Stakes and the Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint as a 3yo at Scottsville.

Exported to Dubai, he injured himself and never raced there.

Stuart Randolph rode a confident race on Sunday, bringing her forward at the 300m and  hardly having to smack her as she put in  a convincing performance that marked her up with the best of her generation.

Rosier was bred by her owners Wilgerbosdrift out of the French Deputy mare, Malmaison.

The latter won once in a modest career with Dean Kannemeyer and she is out of the Storm Cat mare, Dontstealmyroses.

Rosier has now won 3 from 3 for stakes R259 375.

Will SA Fillies Nursery winner Majmu’s  connections be concerned?
